LWOP Munich is undoubtedly the premier event for the laser industry, where attendees can consistently meet representatives from Lithuanian laser technology companies.
This year, the Lithuanian laser community was notably large. It was no surprise when the audience was asked on the opening evening, “Raise your hands if you are from Lithuania!”.
Workshop of Photonics | WOP, renowned for its advanced laser micromachining solutions, showcased its latest achievements at this year’s exhibition.
Highlights included Through Glass Vias (TGV), fiber arrays, microfluidics, special optics, and advancements in laser systems development.
The main focus at the booth was Through Glass Vias (TGV). As high-performance semiconductors continue to evolve, packaging has become increasingly crucial, particularly the interposer, which connects multiple dies within a package. While silicon has traditionally been the standard material, glass is emerging as a promising alternative.
Various companies are pursuing different strategies with glass, either concentrating on interposers or looking to replace the core of organic substrates. Currently, there is a significant demand for glass interposers that meet stringent requirements for bandwidth, signal quality, and size.
WOP is actively addressing this demand and has demonstrated promising results.

During the event, WOP launched a new brand for its special optics called ORISANDO.
The company introduced Space-Variant Retarders (SVR) to the market in 2012, which quickly became one of its key offerings. Subsequently, WOP decided to establish a new brand for its SVR products, leading to the creation of ORISANDO.
The name has a dual meaning: “ORI” signifies originality and a unique production method, while “SANDÕ,” a Japanese term, refers to a visiting path, representing the path of the light beam in this context. Additionally, “SAND” denotes the optical elements crafted from fused silica glass made from quartz sand. The brand name is framed by two “O”s, representing optical elements. Finally, the logo features a stylized path of light leading to the final “O.”
